The travel expense trackerthat keeps every trip on budget

- 150+ currencies
- Shared trips

How it works
Track travel expenses in four taps, not four spreadsheets
Most trip budgets fail because logging an expense takes too long. Costari is built around the ten seconds you actually have while the waiter waits for your card.
Create the trip
Name it, set the dates, and enter a total trip budget or a daily budget. Costari works out the other number for you and keeps each trip completely separate.
Log expenses as you spend
Amount, category, done. Pay in yen, pesos or złoty and Costari converts it to your home currency so every trip total stays in one number.
Check what's left today
The trip screen shows today's spend, the total against your budget, and your remaining daily budget, the one number that decides whether dinner is street food or a restaurant.
See where the money went
Category breakdowns, daily averages, your top spending day, weekends versus weekdays. Useful during the trip, and the reason your next budget is realistic.

Features
Built for real travel, not for accounting
Everything a trip budget needs and nothing that slows down logging an expense on a moving train.
Seconds-fast expense entry
Amount, category, currency. No receipt photos to wait for, no forms to fill in while your table is being cleared.
Multiple trips, kept apart
Paris in May, New York in April, Auckland in March. Each trip has its own budget, currency and history.
150+ currencies, converted
Enter the price on the menu. Costari converts it to your home currency so a five-country trip still adds up to one budget.
Shared trips
Invite the people you're traveling with. Everyone adds expenses to the same trip and the shared budget stays in sync.
Remaining daily budget
The number that actually changes behaviour: what you can still spend today without borrowing from tomorrow.
Trip stats and charts
Category splits, daily averages, top spend day, weekend versus weekday and arrival-day impact, readable in one glance.

Travel expense tracking questions
Short answers, with a full guide behind each one.
How do I track expenses while traveling?
Log each expense the moment you pay, in the currency you paid in, and tag it with a category. A travel expense tracker converts it to your home currency, subtracts it from your daily budget, and shows what you can still spend today, so nothing depends on decoding receipts a week later.
Learn more: how to track travel expensesHow much should I budget per day for a trip?
Take what you can spend on the trip, subtract the fixed costs you have already paid (flights, hotels, rental car), then divide the rest by the number of days. That daily number, not the total, is what keeps a trip on budget. Costari calculates it and updates the remaining amount after every expense.
Learn more: setting a daily travel budgetWhat should I use now that Trail Wallet is no longer updated?
Trail Wallet is no longer actively developed, so travelers who relied on its daily-budget model need a maintained iPhone app with the same fast entry. Costari keeps that model (one trip, one daily budget, quick logging in 150+ currencies) and adds shared trips and trip statistics.
Learn more: the best Trail Wallet alternativeIs a travel budget spreadsheet better than an app?
A spreadsheet is excellent for planning before you leave. It falls apart during the trip: exchange rates have to be typed in by hand, phone editing is slow, and one skipped day breaks the running total. Plan in a spreadsheet if you like. Track in an app.
Learn more: spreadsheet vs travel expense appHow do I track expenses in multiple currencies?
Record every expense in the currency you actually paid, and let the app convert it into one home currency for the trip total. Costari supports 150+ currencies with automatic conversion, so a trip through several countries still produces a single, comparable number.
Learn more: multi-currency expense trackingCan I share a trip budget with the people I travel with?
Yes. Invite other travelers to a trip in Costari and everyone adds expenses to the same trip, with the shared budget synced across devices. Nobody has to send screenshots of a notes app at the end of the week.
Learn more: tracking group trip expensesHow do I keep a backpacking trip on budget?
Backpacking budgets run on a daily number, not a monthly one. Set a daily target, log everything including street food and local buses, and review the remaining daily budget each evening so cheap days visibly pay for the expensive ones.
Learn more: backpacking budget trackerHow do digital nomads track long-term travel spending?
By city, not by vacation. Create a separate trip for each base, keep one home currency so the numbers stay comparable, and use the daily average to see which city your income actually supports before you commit to another month there.
Learn more: expense tracking for digital nomadsHow do I plan a family vacation budget?
Total the fixed costs first: flights, accommodation, car, big-ticket attractions. Subtract them from what you are willing to spend, and turn the remainder into a daily family allowance for food, activities and souvenirs. Then track that allowance while you are away.
Learn more: family vacation budget plannerIs Costari free, and what does Pro add?
Costari is free to download and free to start tracking a trip. Costari Pro is an optional upgrade, available as a yearly or weekly subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase, for travelers who want the full feature set.
